Louis Kim, Partner, Head of Special Situations

As Partner & Head of Special Situations at Gideon Strategic Partners, Louis evaluates unique investment opportunities across credit, equities, and other asset classes. He has over 28 years of investing experience in public/private equities, distressed credits, and has worked with numerous portfolio company senior management teams to develop and evaluate business strategies while serving on several corporate Boards. Prior to joining Gideon Strategic Partners, Louis was the Founder and Portfolio Manager for MKL Capital Partners LP, a Los Angeles-based investment firm focused on opportunistic investing across multiple asset classes. Before MKL Capital Partners LP, Louis was a Managing Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Paceline Partners. Prior to Paceline Partners, Louis was a Managing Director at Pequot Capital / Twin Haven Capital Partners (Twin Haven spun out from Pequot in November 2009), where he sourced, executed, and oversaw many of the firm’s distressed/special situation investments. Before joining Pequot Capital, Louis was a Senior Associate in the Special Situations Group at Trust Company of the West (TCW). Before joining TCW, Louis was a financial analyst in the Global Telecommunications investment banking group at Salomon Brothers Inc.

Louis graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Japanese Language with a concentration in International Business. At Georgetown University, Louis was a member of the school’s Division I NCAA baseball team, being named team Captain in 1995. He was a recipient of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar-Athlete Award in 1994 and received several Big East weekly honors during his playing career.

Louis and his wife are active members of the Los Angeles community, having volunteered their time on non-profit boards and fundraising campaigns for various youth education entities.
